The retailer says it plans a 125,000-sf store and has signed a lease with The Irvine Co. for the site. To be called Nordstrom at Irvine Spectrum Center, the property will be the retailer's fifth full-line store in Orange County and its 19th full-line store in Southern California.

Nordstrom opened its first store in California at South Coast Plaza in 1978. The retailer has expanded its presence in the state to include 28 full-line stores and 17 Nordstrom Rack stores, the company's off-price division.

Irvine Spectrum Center, which opened in 1995, totals approximately 832,000 sf of specialty stores, restaurants and entertainment, including one of the country's largest movie theatres. The new department store will be part of a Spectrum expansion that will include two new parking structures, one of them adjacent to Nordstrom.

Nordstrom Inc. operates 146 U.S. stores located in 27 states. Besides the Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack locations, it operates boutiques under the name Faconnable.
