Veteran's Village Project Receives DDA

SAN DIEGO-The Vietnam Veterans of San Diego group is moving forward with its Veteran's Village complex, having recently received approval from the San Diego Redevelopment Agency for the project's Disposition and Development Agreement.

SAN DIEGO-Having recently received approval from the San Diego Redevelopment Agency for its Disposition and Development Agreement, the locally based organization Vietnam Veterans of San Diego is moving forward with its new housing and rehabilitation complex slated to rise here at 4141 Pacific Highway.

Known as Veteran’s Village, the new campus is aimed at expanding and renovating the group’s current drug and alcohol treatment center, which the VVSD says is the only facility of its kind that specifically serves veterans in San Diego County. Construction on the project, which will be built in three phases, is expected to begin this fall. Design plans call for a “state-of-the-art rehabilitative center, which will include living quarters and support facilities for the treatment, employment training and counseling of homeless veterans,” according to the VVSD website. Phase I will consist of a 112-bed resident early treatment facility, two-story counseling center and kitchen/dining/multipurpose building, while Phase II will include a 112-bed resident facility, central courtyard, employment training/placement center and corporate administrative offices. The final phase, meanwhile, will be comprised of 24 three-bedroom apartments, a warehouse and facilities with an exercise room.
