MEDC Picks Jakeway to Boost Michigan Economy

LANSING, MI-Donald E. Jakeway has been named the president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corp. Previously with Growth Partnership in Toledo, he helped to create more than 3,800 new jobs and spur more than $1.1 billion in private investment and hopes are he'll do the same for Michigan.

LANSING, MI-Michigan has a new point man on economic development. Donald E. Jakeway, who headed a regional economic development agency in the Toledo area for the past six years, was introduced Thursday as the new president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corp. The state had been searching for a new leader for the 270-employee economic development agency since the departure of Doug Rothwell on Jan. 1.

“Don’s impressive economic development track record made him an ideal choice to take over as CEO,” said Matthew P. Cullen, a General Motors executive and chair of the MEDC Executive Committee. “The Executive Committee is confident that he will take his past lessons learned and turn them into successes for the state of Michigan.”

Gov. Jennifer Granholm said Jakeway will to work in partnership with David Hollister, director of the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services, in leading the state’s economic development efforts.
