The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. At press time, almost two-thirds of the center had been leased. It will be anchored by a Winn-Dixie supermarket and other tenants committed include Dryclean USA, Capri Coffee, Shuck 'N' Dive and Subway Restaurants.

The project's developers are George Rahael, president of Amera Corp., and Charlie Ladd, president of Barron Real Estate. J. Raymond is the project's general contractor. Colonial Bank is providing financing.

"The project is intended as a thread in the fabric of the community," says architect Derek Vander Ploeg. "It returns to the neighborhood what has been lost through the years--a local retail component and the look of an indigenous, compatible design. The look is derived from a composite of 1930s Fort Lauderdale-era buildings, scaled to the residential neighborhood, rather than to Federal Highway."
