WASHINGTON, DC-Plans to develop a new Hampton Inn, the first such hotel destination in the District, have gotten underway with the selection of the Clark Construction Group affiliate Clark Residential as the general contractor on the 228-room hotel. The Hampton Inn Washington, a development endeavor of a joint venture team consisting of regional firms JBG Cos. and CG Investments, will cost $15 million to realize.
The new 125,000-sf property will have a coveted spot on Massachusetts Ave. and Sixth St., just a few blocks away from the new Washington Convention Center. Hilton Hotels, which owns the Hampton Inn brand, will tread new ground with the project, as the Hampton Inn brand is the last of its many hotel brands to come to Washington. “Many of these brands have a loyal customer base,” JBG Cos. principal Ken Finklestein says. “If your hotel is the only option in town and people want to stay in town, you’re going to capture that business. It is an advantage.”
