The four-story store, the 37th in 17 states for the Plainfield, IN-based Galyan's, is being built at a cost of $6.7 million, according to Steve Saddlemire, project executive for Jeffrey M. Brown Associates. The company's Philadelphia office has been selected as general contractor for the project. The store, Galyan's second in the New York/New Jersey metro area (the other is in Woodbridge, NJ), has several unusual features, according to Saddlemire.

Chief among them are a raised, barrel-vault roof running the length of the building and an open ceiling system. The store will also feature a rock climbing wall for intrepid shoppers to demo their climbing gear, according to Saddlemire.

Located on Route 9 in this Monmouth County seat, Freehold Raceway Mall has a total of 215 specialty stores and restaurants. Its existing anchor tenant mix includes Lord & Taylor, Sears, JCPenney, Nordstrom's and Macy's.
