"We found a great niche for us is working with the small mom-and-pop stores and some of the Tier III businesses," says Paul Socia, EVP of the bank. "We've been growing by leaps and bounds in that arena and it is something we focus on."
Socia says the bank's sixth branch office is also a reflection of the growing population in the New Baltimore-Chesterfield Township area of Macomb County. The two communities ranked first and fourth, respectively, in metro Detroit in terms of population growth rate from 2000 to 2002, according to a recent US Census report.
The bank's newest location is expected to be completed and open in June 2004. Socia says the building will also include room for employee training and seminars and workshops for bank customers.
Once completed, the bank will employee about 20 people, about half of whom will represent new hires, Socia says. The bank now employs about 70 people at its existing five branches. Citizens State Bank has approximately $180 million in assets, up from approximately $150 million at the end of 2002.
