20,000-SF Biz Incubator Gets Underway

SILVER SPRING, MD-The Silver Spring Innovation Center, Montgomery County’s second business incubator, has gotten off the ground with a recent groundbreaking ceremony, attended by local and county officials backing the project. The 20,000-sf facility will offer low-cost office accommodations for technology startups. JBG Cos. is building the freestanding structure on behalf of Montgomery County, which will serve as owner and operator of the $2.5 million facility.

“We are breaking ground and laying another stone in the foundation of the success of Silver Spring and for the future success of Montgomery County,” county executive Douglas M. Duncan says in a statement from the ceremony. “We are dedicated to supporting the high technology industries that are going to bring high quality jobs to the residents of Montgomery County.” The building–partially funded by a $1 million grant from the Maryland Technology Corp.–is on schedule to reach completion next spring.
