The Inn, located on Van Dyke near 15 Mile, broke ground last week on a $1.2 million water park expansion project, with completion anticipated by February 2004.
The expansion follows the fall 2001 creation of a 22,769 sq. ft. indoor water park on its property.
The expansion will add 9,000 sf of space to the water park, which at completion will total more than 31,000 sf.
The opening of the water park has generated significant traffic at the Best Western Sterling Inn, making it more of a destination for business travelers and local families seeking an in-state vacation, Inn officials said.
"At the Best Western Sterling Inn, our goal is to always provide our guests with superior customer service and amenities," said Victor Martin, general manager, Best Western Sterling Inn.
Currently, the indoor water park features a 5,000 sf zero entry swimming pool with a three-story water slide, lazy river, full-time lifeguards, indoor running track, basketball court, state-of-the-art fitness center, video game arcade, two large whirlpools, locker rooms with men's and women's saunas, and a poolside snack bar with full bar service.
The architectural firm for the water park expansion project is CT and Associates from Troy, MI. In 1996 they completed work on a 35,000 sf expansion that tripled the facility's banquet and conference center from 5,000 sf to 15,000 sf.
