"This campaign was critically important to the university," says UDM President Maureen A. Fay, O.P. "It enabled us to virtually transform the educational environment, making it more dynamic and responsive to the needs of our students. We have truly strengthened our ability to fulfill our mission and vision for Catholic higher education. Our alumni and friends who participated in this campaign have indeed created a 'legacy' for the university for which they should be very proud."
A UDM spokesman says the university also plans to make a major announcement about a construction project in the city before the end of the year.
Many enhancements at the Catholic university have already taken place, officials say--restoring historic buildings; building and remodeling classrooms; and equipping laboratories and lecture halls with cutting edge technology.
UDM recently marked its 125th anniversary in the city. The school's first class was offered in 1877. The school's recently completed fun campaign raised $101.5 million.
