Nunnery Fields Hospital is located within a mile of Canterbury city centre. It was declared surplus in 2000 and decommissioned in 2001. It was formerly a geriatric hospital and comprises the former Canterbury Workhouse, a Victorian Infirmary and further residential development land.

Prior to the sale the East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust obtained detailed planning consent for 139 residential units, 37 of which will be located in the two historic buildings on the site. Atis Real Weatheralls advised the trust and associate director of consulting Nick Alexander said: "The purchase price has certainly exceeded expectations and is reward for the trust's patience in pursuing a lengthy planning process prior to marketing the site. The net capital receipt of the sale will be re-invested by the NHS in further healthcare developments in Kent.
