The center would be built at Harmony and Timberline roads. Construction of the first phase could begin as early as spring 2004. The first phase would have about 450,000-sf of space. The center, however, is approved for 750,000 sf.

But it will face competition from another proposed mall in the area, by local developer McWhinney Enterprises in a partnership with Memphis-based Poag & McEwen.

"In my opinion, there's only room for one new regional shopping center," Chuck McWhinney, CEO of his namesake company tells GlobeSt.com.

"But the shopping center is really being handled by Poag & McEwen," he adds. "We're basically supplying the land." His center would be at I-25 and US 34 in nearby Loveland.
