The site straddles the boundary between two local authorities: Hammersmith & Fulham council has approved the plans for 817 flats and 105,000 sf of commercial space in two towers of 37 and 25 storeys. But Kensington & Chelsea council has now rejected it for the third time.
The council had been concerned that development on this scale would place unacceptable stress on the local transport system, but after a study found that this was not the case, the plans were thrown out on the grounds that they were not in keeping with the statutory development plan for the area. The developers said they were now considering an appeal, which would involve an expensive and time-consuming public inquiry.
