335,000-SF FedEx Facility to Deliver in 2006

HAGERSTOWN, MD-Construction has gotten under way on the new 335,000-sf facility being developed by Federal Express Corp.’s small-package ground delivery service subsidiary, FedEx Ground. The new Mid-Atlantic processing center, which will occupy a 114-acre site in the Hunter’s Green Business Center II industrial park, is just one of 10 distribution hubs that are being erected across the country over the next several years as part of FedEx’s $1.8 billion expansion program. The global package transportation company does not reveal price tags for such facilities–as FedEx Ground’s David Westrick told GlobeSt.com last summer upon news of the company’s decision to locate the facility in Washington County–so development costs remain unknown.

FedEx’s new distribution digs will sit in an easily accessible spot on nearly one fifth of the 524-acre business park, just off the busy I-70 and I-81 thoroughfares. It was location, location, location, that played a major role in the company’s decision to locate in town. In addition to its close proximity to pivotal highway infrastructure, Hunter’s Green Business Center is also near the distribution centers of many of FedEx’s customers.
