The island, which is part of Canada, will be sold Nov. 25 at the Westin hotel in Southfield.
The property is only accessible by boat. The current owners, who were not identified, have been using it as a hunting preserve. The island is staked with signs warning off hunters and trespassers.
To the west of Turkey Island are the waterfront mansions of Grosse Ile. On the east is the wooded Canadian shoreline. The city's skyline lies to the north. The island has a patch of woods, but it is dominated by tall grasses and marshland. Shallow water and rocks surrounding the island make it difficult to land a boat.
The island once was owned by Henry Ford's sister and brother-in-law, and Ford used it as a hunting and fishing retreat. The property has development potential, but could also be used as an exclusive hunting retreat.
