The Portage Trade Center project involves at least one 83,000-sf, three-story office building that will house the consolidated offices of Plante & Moran certified public accountants. The entire project, which also could include another office building and several restaurants on about 33 acres, is expected to bring in an estimated 195 jobs.

The work began in November and Plante & Moran are expected to be able to move in by October 2004. The development firm, H&G LLC, operated by Joseph Gesmundo and Roger Hinman is building the complex.

Along with The Trade Center office building, H&G is said to be considering several other developments at that site, including a motel, another office building, two to three "high-end" restaurants and possibly a small "high-end" retail area.

The Trade Center project is one of four brownfield redevelopments projects currently under way in the city, which allows developers to tap into state money for environmental testing and cleanup costs, and to be eligible for a Single Business Tax credit.
