Minneapolis and St. Paul are each gearing up efforts to make bids to build stadiums for both the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission, the public agency that owns the Metrodome, has approved up to $500,000 for hiring consultants to assist the Pawlenty group assess proposals for Twins and Vikings stadiums.

The head of the Greater Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce told his members that the organization will do what it can to keep the Twins and Vikings in Minneapolis.

The Let's Play Ball Task Force of the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce has been meeting for months in an attempt to put together a ballpark plan for the Twins.

Pawlenty is seeking proposals for financing and sites for both sports teams by Jan. 15. The Governor soon will appoint 19 members to the screening committee, which will sift through proposals and forward some to Pawlenty. Minnesota Finance Commissioner Dan McElroy will chair the committee. The commission will hire architectural, environmental and traffic consultants to assist the screening committee.
