The property, built in 1875, is unique turn-of–the-century landmark in the Lady Mile Historic District. Formerly the Hugh O'Neill Department Store, it contains approximately 100,000 rentable sf above grade plus a full basement. Currently, there are three retail tenants on ground level--the Men's Warehouse, David Z Shoes and Scuba Dive Shop. Between nearly 20,000 and 22,000 sf of space is currently available on the second, third, fourth and fifth floors.

The cast-iron site is one of the oldest and largest retail establishments in the area, according to New York University's Fine Art archives. It was closed for department store use after O'Neill's death in 1915. The building has a unique facade marked by Corinthian columns painted white to look like stone.

Mingo Lee, a director at Eastern Consolidated Properties, procured the buyer, Miki Naftali, president of the El Ad Group Ltd. and represented the seller, Apache Realty. Some of El Ad's include luxury condominium buildings at 21 Astor, 49 East 21st St. and 355 Sixth Ave., according to published reports.

Lee, who has handled $150 million in transactions over the past two years, tells GlobeSt.com that the property was on the market for approximately nine months. "The property is stunning," he says, adding that a flurry of interest caused the buyer to move quickly to complete the acquisition.
