Designed by architectural firm Brown & Craig Inc. the "main-street" style Boulevard at Capital Centre is 95% occupied by a bevy of top-name tenants. Among the retailers that have already opened their doors or have committed to space at the shopping center are Borders Books, Lane Bryant, Linens N' Things, the Men's Warehouse, Pier One and Starbucks. As for the eateries sprinkled along the property's restaurant row, Italian restaurant Nick & Tony's occupies a 7,600-sf space, Red Star Tavern has 5,800 sf and Mondo Bondo Italian Bistro holds court in a 3,000-sf locale. A 12-screen Magic Johnson Theaters movie house, in conjunction with Loews Cineplex Entertainment, is due to open up in a 52,000-sf space in 2004. There will also be a health club facility, as well as a selection of art galleries at the property.

Not only will Boulevard at Capital Centre create 750 new jobs, it will also produce nearly $126 million over the next decade for the local government. "It's definitely an essential part of the economic development plan in Prince George's County in terms of bringing vital community centers to the area, increasing the number of jobs in the community, and assuring that our residents have the ability to visit quality retail establishments--and spend their money," Nancy C. Lineman of the Office of the County Executive tells GlobeSt.com. Washington Sports and Entertainment chairman Abe Pollin, who developed the US Airways arena as the Capital Centre sports facility in 1972, also participated in the realization of the retail destination.
