The locally based restaurant chain says that 65% of its restaurants are franchised, or operated by non-employees, and 32% of its restaurants are based in Ohio. The company currently operates 227 Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants in 28 states.

The company will have opened 14 of its own restaurants and 36 franchises by the end of this year.

"We intend to grow our franchise system through the development of new restaurants by existing and new franchisees," the company says in its proxy statement. "Due to the strength of our brand, unit growth opportunities in attractive undeveloped markets and the relative simplicity of our restaurant operations, we believe we are able to attract experienced and well-capitalized area developers."

Buffalo Wings hired RBC Capital Markets, SG Cowen, and McDonald Investments Inc. to underwrite the sale.
