Bellway Wins Barking Site

LONDON-English Partnerships, the national regeneration agency, has selected Bellway Homes as its partner in a new joint venture company to develop Barking Reach, a 360-acre brownfield site in the Thames Gateway, East London.

LONDON-Bellway Homes has won the right to develop up to 10,000 new homes in a massive regeneration of the 360-acre Barking Reach site on the north bank of the Thames in East London. Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott announced the choice because Barking Reach, one of the largest brownfield sites in Europe, is key to the UK Government’s regeneration strategy for the Thames Gateway region.

Proposals currently being drawn up by the Dutch project masterplanners, Maxwan, will create a new community of over 10,000 new homes supported by major transport improvements, community facilities, new schools and employment opportunities stretching along more than a mile of the north bank of the Thames. The development is expected to take 15 years.
