ATLANTA-Local developer Andy Been will have to look elsewhere in Henry County or neighboring areas to develop a 164-home subdivision. Citing a largely undeveloped pocket 30 miles south of Downtown, county commissioners voted 4 to 1 against Been’s Unified Residential company’s plan to develop a 164-home subdivision next to a sports shooting range.

Also working against Been was a county ordinance that prohibits firing a gun within 200 yards of a residence, local brokers following the situation tell GlobeSt.com. The gun range is owned by Brad Bradford Realty whose owners told commissioners their site is more suitable to the undeveloped area at this time.

Been wants his tract rezoned to a planned development status from the existing residential agriculture zoning. The project became controversial when the county’s citizens planning commission last month recommended Been’s rezoning request be denied after the county’s planning department staff gave it the green light.
