Wayne State Builds New Medical Facility

DETROIT-The new $1.9-million facility is part of effort to create an eventual Michigan Life Sciences Corridor that would extend from here all the way to Kalamazoo.

DETROIT-Wayne State University has completed construction of a $1.9-million medical-chemical research facility on its Detroit campus. This facility, funded by grants from the Michigan Life Sciences Corridor, the National Institute of Health and Wayne State’s Office of the Vice President for Research, College of Science and School of Medicine, is the first 700 MHz Nuclear magnetic resonance facility in the US to be equipped with a cryoprobe, which provides sensitivity that is 10 times higher than magnetic resonance devices now generally in use.

Building the facility, which will be available for use for the region’s scientific community, is part of an effort to create a center of life sciences expertise in the Detroit-Ann Arbor-Kalamazoo corridor.
