Hospital Plans for $81M Expansion Endeavor

LYNCHBURG, VA-Responding to increased demand for services, healthcare system Centra Health has poised itself for a large expansion with the announcement that it has laid the groundwork for the development of two new facilities totaling 190,000 sf. The local nonprofit healthcare system organization applied to the state for approval for a $21-million cancer treatment facility, and a $60-million patient care building.

Centra’s proposed cancer center would feature 50,000 sf of space on a corner lot at Ahterholt and Langhome roads. By pooling together the radiation and medical oncology services, the building would allow the hospital to provide several cancer-related treatment programs and under one roof. Plans could ultimately include the addition of a library, pharmacy, consultation offices, a conference room and a specialty boutique catering to cancer patients.
