The Comfort Motel, on Woodward south of 13 Mile, is expected to be demolished by Dec. 15. The property owner, Rajenkumar Patel, said the land is for sale. The city will pay the roughly $45,000 bill to raze the property and then pass that cost on to the new property owner.
Another Woodward motel, the Dunes Motel, is expected to be torn down by the end of December. The two motels are less than a half-mile from each other.
The Washington Hotel, in downtown Royal Oak, was shut down after numerous police raids in recent years, but the future of that hotel has not yet been decided.
The Kingswood Hotel, which is on Woodward between 12 Mile and 13 Mile, was demolished in January. A Fifth Third bank now stands where the Kingswood once did.
