The investment will be used for Focus production, consolidating all of Ford's North American Focus production at Wayne. Currently, the Focus ZX3 and ZX5 are produced at Ford's Hermosillo (Mexico) Stamping and Assembly Plant. Future investments also are anticipated at Wayne.
"We will consolidate 100% of our North American Focus production--that's all four body styles--within these walls in 2005," Padilla said. "Our actions will include installation of new equipment in the stamping plant and body shop for the models moving from Hermosillo, the Focus ZX3 and ZX5. It also will allow us to start installing some flexible tooling " the first step toward making Wayne a flexible manufacturing facility."
Ford's investment helps stabilize jobs and secures the future of the Wayne Assembly Plant, with support from the State of Michigan and the City of Wayne, the governor said.
"Ford Motor's commitment to Michigan and to our workforce caps more than $2 billion in new business investment in our state this year," Granholm said. "Ford knows that our state's business climate, and our determination to help all businesses succeed."
