Multifamily housing construction has doubled to 550 units. They were built through September 2003 compared to 274 units built in all of 2004.
Other multifamily highlights include the closing on Heritage Park phase two rental housing, where there is construction under way on 113 units of mixed income rental housing; a new development on the Nicollet Hotel block that will consist of a transit facility, commercial/retail space and up to 300 units of new housing next to the new Downtown library.
The department's economic development division helped create about 354 new jobs in the quarter. The 1,951 jobs preserved to date this year exceed the 1,718 jobs preserved through the end of last year.
