Wal-Mart Loses Bid for Supercenter

ATLANTA-Local developer Doug Crawford withdraws plans for the estimated $10-million, 182,724-sf retail complex off Cascade Road after Fulton County commissioners fail to approve the project for the fourth time.

ATLANTA-After six months of opposition from Cascade Road area residents and three tie votes from Fulton County commissioners, local developer Doug Crawford has withdrawn plans to build an estimated $10-million, 182,724-sf supercenter for Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

However, Crawford told commissioners at a public meeting this week he plans to resubmit a development order application next year after he has had an opportunity to discuss the venture fully with area residents. Residents told commissioners the planned store wouldn’t complement the residential and commercial corridor that has developed where Cascade Road meets Interstate 285.
