The funding is from the state's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. Former Gov. Mark Schweiker committed to the funding last year, and Rendell released the grant after a review of the project.
Seating will be expanded from 2,900 to 5,000. In addition to football, the complex will be used to host soccer, lacrosse and field hockey games. The school district expects to rent the venue a minimum of four times a year to generate an additional $10,000 in annual revenue.
It will also hire eight permanent employees, including security, maintenance and food preparation workers. Rendell estimates to the school district alone could reap in excess of $275,000 a year. "Recreational and community development programs pay large dividends and help create economic opportunities for smaller municipalities such as Bristol Township," he says. He adds that surrounding businesses, convenience stores and cafes will see an estimated increase in sales of from 10% to 35% on days events take place at the stadium.
