Situated at 5111 Connecticut Ave. at the intersection of Nebraska andConnecticut avenues, the new sunrise facility consists of 80,000 sf of space andenough residential units to accommodate as many as 100 residents. TheConnecticut Avenue community is the second property in the District to be operatedby Sunrise; the other property is Grand Oaks on the campus of Sibley MemorialHospital.

The company's presence in the heart of Washington, DC is expected to grow. "Wewould be looking to invest again in the District," Sunrise senior vice presidentof development Sean Ambrose shares with GlobeSt.com. "I think Connecticut Avenueis going to be a huge success, so we'd be happy to look at other opportunitiesin the District, in assisted living like this one and in independent livingproperties that would be in more urban, downtown-type settings."

Sunrise is also open to partnering up with developers or owners of multifamilyproperties for independent living options. "Some of the larger and morewell-known developers have already picked-up parcels in the city to bedeveloped; Sunrise could take on a few floors of those properties and operatethem as a Sunrise independent living residence," Ambrose explains. He adds thatthe company is also interested in expanding its property management assignmentsin the District, as well.
