BOWIE, MD-There are 100 acres of prime property that developers will never get their hands on now that the Prince George’s County Board has revealed news that a sprawling parcel known as Nash Woods is to be preserved as open space. Oddly enough it was a clearly forward-thinking developer, MIE Properties, which spearheaded the effort to safeguard the land where Rte. 50 and Rte. 3 meet. MIE spent $12 million to acquire the property from another developer, and then turned it over to the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission for a mere $6 million.
“This is another example of the commitment MIE Properties has to excellence,” notes Edward St. John, president of the Baltimore-based real estate firm. “We have shown that real estate companies care deeply about the environments in which they do business.” Nash Woods had been in line to become the home of a new retirement community.
