The Michigan Economic Growth Authority has an 85% employment tax credit for 12 years for any new employees Karmann GmbH might locate or hire in Plymouth. Karmann opened a technical center in Plymouth earlier this year.
Now, Karmann is considering Michigan or Tennessee for a manufacturing plant. A 108,000-sf building next to Karmann's Plymouth location is available for lease. Karmann's total local investment could be about $13 million, if it decides to locate in Plymouth.
The technical center employs 66 people. According to MEGA, the manaufacturing plant could employ about 250 within five years. Karmann would use the plant to manufactures convertible roof systems.
