Lowe's officials confirmed that the home-improvement company will be occupying a $16.5-million, 116,000-sf store in the $50-million, 800,000-sf Edgewater Retail District shopping enclave being developed by St. Petersburg, FL-based Sembler Co. The district is on a 44-acre site on Moreland Avenue near DeKalb. Lowe's expects to open the store by fall of next year with about 175 employees.

The entire Edgewater Retail District is tentatively scheduled to be completed by March 2005, as GlobeSt.com previously reported. Besides Lowe's, the center's tenant roster is expected to include Target, Kroger, Barnes & Noble, Bed Bath & Beyond, Ross Dress for Less, Cost Plus World Market and Petsmart, area retail brokers tell GlobeSt.com.

The new location will bring Lowe's total retail occupancy in the Atlanta market to about 2.8 million sf, retail brokers following the company's progress report. Lowe's also plans new stores next year in suburban Sandy Springs, GA and at the Lindbergh Plaza in Buckhead, which Sembler will also be redeveloping.
