Kohl's officials couldn't be reached by GlobeSt.com's publication deadline; however, area industrial real estate brokers tell GlobeSt.com the facility could be built for about $50 per sf. The retailer plans to open the center by July 2005 with an initial staff of 200 that could grow to 400 as the property is expanded, brokers tell GlobeSt.com.

Kohl's has grown its Georgia store portfolio to 18 since opening its first location in March 2001. The company has 560 stores in 37 states.

In a prepared statement on Kohl's November sales, Kohl's CEO Larry Montgomery says the firm plans to open about 95 new stores in fiscal year 2004. In the first quarter, 47 new stores will be opened "between new market entries and fill-ins in existing markets," Montgomery says.
