Phase II entails the complete demolition and rebuilding of the medical center's 40-year-old wing that houses an emergency room and surgery area. Aside from the demolition, the site work will include paving, earthwork and underground utilities. At build-out, the hospital's new section will entail 6,000 sf of mixed-use space slated to include a lobby/registration area, gift shop, chapel and 25-ft water feature.
The completion of the 59,000-sf first phase at the end of last summer resulted in the addition of a 20-bed emergency room, five operating room surgical suites and an in/out patient care section. A 12-bed intensive care unit area was also built, along with 48 medical/surgical beds. In addition, the hospital now features upgraded telecommunications and electrical services; and a new central plant that includes generators, cooling towers, boiler, chillers, medical gasses and medical air compressors.
The City of El Centro owns the El Centro Regional Medical Center, which is being renovated by general contractor Roel Construction. Rodriguez Park Architecture & Planning designed the project, which is slated for completion in April 2004.
