The project had been tied up for almost two years due to concerns over parking. The project's parking lot is in Westland and that community had concerns over environmental issues from the lot, which is to be located on a former landfill. The land eventually was declared a brownfield by Canton, to give Emagine a tax break to help pay for clean-up costs for some contamination that exists due to the former landfill.
Elsewhere in Canton, Goodrich Quality Theaters, which operates the Canton 6, said that facility will be getting an upgrade--and another screen. Later this year, it will become Canton 7.
