Licensed in both Oregon and Washington, Kappes concentrates on the sale and leasing of industrial properties. His experience includes buyer and tenant representation, consulting, marketing, lease extensions and long-term ground lease negotiations. On the development side, he has experience working with developers in land sales, build-to-suit and speculative projects. A partial list of clients represented includes: Pendleton Woolen Mills, Portland Community College, Oregon Historical Society, the Port of Portland and Port of Vancouver.

Kappes is the third veteran broker added to TCC's local office since it lost four experienced brokers during the second half of 2002. In the summer of 2002, then city leader Chris Nelson left to start his own development business. Shortly thereafter, Nelson was joined by Jeff Sackett, then TCC's vice president of development. Retail brokers Craig Sweitzer and Dan Bozich also left to establish their own firm prior to the end of that year.

All four brokers left within a year or so of TCC executive John Sterik leaving Portland for Dallas in 2001 to become the COO of TCC's Global Services Group. Sterik hired all four brokers while he was based in Portland and, given his experience with the market, also was called on to find Nelson's replacement.

It took TCC executive John Sterik nine months to find the right replacement for Nelson. In March 2003, a few months after luring veteran broker Dirk Otis back to the organization to handle development work, Sterik announced the hiring of industry veteran Lindsay Gordon, who was biding his time as the leasing director for PacTrust's 380-acre Columbia Tech Center development in Vancouver after relocating to the area with his wife and her family. Prior to PacTrust, Gordon was a partner with Beals Martin, responsible for their East Bay development portfolio. Prior to that, he spent several years with Opus as director of national accounts in the Western Region.

Gordon tells GlobeSt.com that Kappes complements existing TCC industrial brokers Dave Ellis and John Fettig and gives the company an instant and substantial presence in the Eastside/Columbia Corridor market, an area where they have been looking for a boost. "He's a very welcome addition," says Gordon.
