Katter was with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans (formerly Lutheran Brotherhood) for nine years. As director-real estate investments from 1997 to 2003, he developed and implemented the company's regional real estate investment program, including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures and partnerships. He was asset manager at the company from 1994 to 1996.

Katter began his real estate career as a property manager with Welsh Cos. from 1990 to 1994. Katter earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota in 1989 and a Real Property Administrator degree from the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) in 1992. He is a member of BOMA and the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.
