Schnitzer Northwest's chief investment officer Greg MacDiarmid says Needell brings to the table experience in real estate finance, deal structuring and negotiation, as well as extensive capital raising experience on both the debt and equity side. MacDiarmid says Needell's primary responsibilities at Schnitzer Northwest will be debt and equity financing and lender and partner relations.

Needell has been with Merrill Lynch since 1992. He held several positions in the investment banking division's real estate group prior to moving to the corporate finance group as a vice president in 2000. He was promoted to director of the group in 2002.

Schnitzer Northwest is real estate investment enterprise founded in 1997 by managing partner Dan Ivanoff of Seattle and Portland, OR-based Schnitzer Investment Corp. Since that time, Schnitzer Northwest has developed approximately 2.5 million sf of institutional-grade assets, including high-rise office, low-rise office/technology, biotechnology buildings and luxury apartments.

The company's most recently completed project is Civica Office Commons, a class A office complex in Bellevue. Schnitzer Northwest is also nearing completion North Creek, a 1.5 million-sf high-tech-based business park in Bothell, WA. In addition to managing its own portfolio, the company has a third-party management portfolio of more than 8 million sf.
