New owner Vito Munaco closed on the purchase late last year. The 140 members of the club had owned the facility and operated it as a not-for-profit club. The 180-acre property includes an 18-hole golf course and a 43,000-sf clubhouse.
It will now be operated as a for-profit business. Membership dues have been greatly reduced and a new marketing campaign is starting up.
According to the Bloomfield Township assessor's office, the state equalized value of the property is about $1.4 million, or 50% of the estimated market value, making it worth about $2.8 million.
Wabeek Country Club was built in 1972 and was co-designed by Jack Nicklaus. The club and surrounding Wabeek subdivisions once were part of the James Couzens estate, which was built in the early 1920s and designed by Albert Kahn.
