GlobeSt.com UPDATE: Pawlenty Backs $265M Rail Line

ANOKA, MN-The Minnesota governor reverses field on the Northstar Corridor issue, and will propose a $37.5 million investment in the commuter rail line, which will receive federal matching dollars.

ANOKA, MN-Gov. Tim Pawlenty said this week that funding for the Northstar Corridor commuter rail line would be included in his 2004 bonding proposal.

The announcement was a reversal over the Republican governor’s previous stance objecting to this line, and was received with criticism from some members of his own party.

“We’re choking on congestion,” Pawlenty says. “This past year, we made the largest infusion of road-building funds in history. Now, we need to also look at expanded transit opportunities. The plan we’re announcing today is progress on all fronts.”
