The West Sacramento location was chosen because it is midway between the company's production plants in Auburn, WA and Corona, CA. The new plant is expected to begin fabricating windows in the summer of 2004. CertainTeed says the plant initially will employ about 125 people, but could reach 500 within five years.

The plant will produce the company's Insulate Standard and Slimline Series Products as well as New Castle XT. "This facility will provide us with the potential to tap into a number of high growth markets in the Western United States," says Harald Jacobsen, president of CertainTeed's Window Group.

The local plant falls closely on the heels of the company's opening of a new window fabrication facility in Lebanon, IN in the summer of 2003. When the West Sacramento facility opens this summer, CertainTeed's Window Group will have five window fabrication facilities and two extrusion operations up and running.

In addition to vinyl windows, CertainTeed manufactures fiber cement siding; vinyl and composite decking, railing and fencing; vinyl windows and patio doors; residential, commercial, and mechanical insulation; residential and commercial roofing; pipe and foundation systems.
