Universal Mall Named Brownfield

WARREN, MI-The Warren City Council has designated Universal Mall as a brownfield, a move that will assist the mall's ownership in renovating the facility.

WARREN, MI-The 760,000-sf Universal Mall in is a brownfield, says the Warren City Council. The council made the designation at the request of the mall’s owner, Universal Mall Properties, to allow the owner to qualify for a tax break as it seeks to renovate the aging facility.

The mall, at 12 Mile and Dequindre roads, has been undergoing extensive renovation since the current ownership group took over about five years ago.

“These improvements will certainly enhance the property and the overall image for the city of Warren. This plan will assist us in attracting new and exciting retail tenants who in turn will bring both new and old customers to the property,” says Universal Mall general manager Marilyn Zeigler.
