"Michigan's brownfield program has transformed blighted areas of communities all across the state, making eyesores into catalysts for community development," says Gov. Jennifer Granholm. "We want to make sure that this excellent tool is utilized to the fullest extent to help create cool cities and create jobs statewide."

The state Department of Environmental Quality will present information on changes to the brownfield grant and loan program, recent legislative actions and the creation of a new revolving loan program.

The Michigan Economic Development Corp. will present information on the recent administrative changes in the brownfield Single Business Tax credit program, tax increment financing, brownfield redevelopment authority successes and other programs that support the reuse of Michigan's brownfield properties.

"The brownfield administration process has been improved to help us prioritize the projects that will do the most good in a community," says Don Jakeway, MEDC president and CEO. "Providing updated information to communities and developers will ensure that the program continues to be successful," he says. "Together with the DEQ, we have put together an information-packed session that will benefit all practitioners."

Workshops will be held in the following locations:

• Jan. 27-Northern Michigan University, Marquette

• Jan. 29-Radisson Plaza Hotel, Kalamazoo

• Feb. 3-McGuires Resort, Cadillac

• Feb. 5-Lakes of Taylor Golf Course, Taylor
