According to Paulo Suffredini, the joint venture project director, Odebrecht will build commercial as well as industrial properties there, such as military compounds, airports, runways and other public works projects. The work will include construction, reconstruction, renovation, restoration and design.
The Department of the Army, Transatlantic Programs Center, US Army Corps of Engineers notified the Odebrecht-Austin joint venture that it was awarded the contract for design-build and/or construction related services in the U. Central Command Area of Responsibility. This area includes the Horn of Africa, South and Central Asia, Northern Red Sea regions (including Iraq) and the Arabian Peninsula.
"We are gratified that the Army has showed great faith in our ability to handle construction programs of this magnitude," Luiz Rocha, president of Odebrecht Construction Inc., says in a statement. "We believe this contract will provide many opportunities for local firms to participate, which will in turn strengthen the economy of South Florida."
On a local level, Odebrecht Construction, in a joint venture with Parsons Transportation Group, is managing the building of the Miami International Airport South Terminal Expansion project. The company also is building the Performing Arts Center of Greater Miami in a joint venture with the Haskell Co. and Ellis Don Construction.
