Odebrecht's Army Contract Could Reach $500M in First Year

CORAL GABLES, FL-Locally based Odebrecht Construction Inc., jointly with the Austin Co. of Cleveland, has been awarded a US Army construction contract for work in the Middle East. The contract has a $500-million monetary ceiling for the first year and $250 million for each of the four option years.

According to Paulo Suffredini, the joint venture project director, Odebrecht will build commercial as well as industrial properties there, such as military compounds, airports, runways and other public works projects. The work will include construction, reconstruction, renovation, restoration and design.

The Department of the Army, Transatlantic Programs Center, US Army Corps of Engineers notified the Odebrecht-Austin joint venture that it was awarded the contract for design-build and/or construction related services in the U. Central Command Area of Responsibility. This area includes the Horn of Africa, South and Central Asia, Northern Red Sea regions (including Iraq) and the Arabian Peninsula.
