An open house and grand opening celebration will be held on February 7th at the center, which has already attracted a high level of interest in the community, according to Maralyn Schmiedeke, the project's director of assisted living. "GlenView has been more than 50% sold out for months now and is already enjoying a much greater occupation than we had originally anticipated," she tells GlobeSt.com. The facility is "currently 25% occupied, with many more residents scheduled to move here in the coming weeks," Schmiedeke adds.

GlenView is a two-story building that contains a special section, known as the Gardens, which is a "secured dementia care unit," according to Continuing Life Communities' literature describing the project. Residences of the Gardens will receive services geared toward memory support, physical activity, socialization and mental stimulation. Located on the first floor, this special section of GlenView has capacity for 18 residents, according to Schmiedeke. The remainder of GlenView houses a total of 58 assisted living units, which range in design from studios to one- or two-bedroom floorplans. All of the assisted living units feature a kitchenette, emergency call system and independent climate controls. GlenView is also located within walking distance to The Forum at Carlsbad, a 265,000-sf retail complex.

In addition to GlenView, Continuing Life Communities is also wrapping up work on its GlenBrook Skilled Nursing project that is slated to open this February. Housed in the same center as GlenView, the 70-bed facility will feature long-term nursing care services, a full-service therapy and rehabilitation department, and a dementia care wing.

"The incredible public interest (in both projects) reinforces our idea that the area desperately needed quality assisted living and skilled nursing units," Schmiedeke says. "There is nothing in the immediate area of this caliber," she adds.

"GlenView and GlenBrook were built to support the local community and residents of La Costa Glen Carlsbad," Schmiedeke tells GlobeSt.com. La Costa Glen Carlsbad is a $100-million project that another Continuing Life entity, known as Continuing Life Communities LLC, is developing in phases. Located at 1940 Levante St. in Carlsbad, La Costa Glen's first phase consists of apartment homes, as well as two- and three-bedroom villas. The project is located on a 25-acre parcel surrounded by a park-like preserve that features dedicated natural space. Amenities include a clubhouse, recreational center, putting green, croquet and bocce ball courts, horseshoe pit, lake, koi pond, gardens and walking trails.
