Robert Fitzgerald, executive vice president and principal of NAI Hunneman Commercial represented the South Shore Charter School in the transaction. The building, located on a six-acre parcel, is the former corporate headquarters for Serono Laboratories Inc. and was sold by iStar, an Atlanta-based company.

The school says it has been searching for a location for nine years. It intends to implement a three-phase conversion of the property which will involve developing computer labs, art and music studios and performance space, science labs, a media room, a library and recreation space. The school currently has 360 students in grades kindergarten through high school and will be able to expand to 468 students in its new location.

It is anticipated that the high school will relocate to the facility in February with the rest of the school joining them in September. The financing for the purchase was provided by the National Cooperative Bank and Development Corp.
