Closure in NC Brings $10M Expansion to Virginia

NARROWS, VA-Celanese Acetate LLC, a division of global chemicals company Celanese AG, plans to expand its research and development capacity at its site off Route 460 through a $10-million investment. The company will make room for the new R&D activity, which will take place in a 73,000-sf space, by redeveloping an existing 300,000-sf structure at the sprawling 1,500-acre campus.

Celanese’s decision to expand its local facility is the result of the relocation of its R&D operation in Charlotte, NC. “Having our research and development activities located at our largest manufacturing site will enable us to quickly integrate new developments into our manufacturing operations,” explains Celanese vice president of global manufacturing Rebecca Humelsine.
