Tire Maker Likes 258-Acre Site for $125M Plant

BARTOW COUNTY, GA-Area industrial brokers in a position to know tell GlobeSt.com a national tire manufacturer wants to build an estimated 500,000-sf, 258-acre, $125 million plant that would employ 250 workers here in this rural area about 40 miles northwest of Downtown Atlanta.

But anti-development forces in the county and in the town of White, GA are vigorously lobbying Gov. Sonny Perdue to reject the development, a move the governor hesitates to make, brokers tell GlobeSt.com.

“Bartow already has lost a Cosco furniture operation, a Lever Brothers factory and a carpet manufacturer because local residents don’t want their rural lifestyle changed by new industry,” an Atlanta broker familiar with the controversy says. “I’m betting the governor will push this thing through.”
